The Yarn Tree: A Fiber Arts Studio + Store

Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom
A Course by Linda LaBelle

Join the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and renowned artist Linda LaBelle in a unique 9 session studio course on weaving, in conjunction with the museum's exhibition Matthew Barney: The Cremaster Cycle. Linda LaBelle, founder of The Yarn Tree studio in Brooklyn, was the Costume Designer for Cremasters 1, 2, 3, and 5 of Matthew Barney's 5-part film project.

Instruction includes hand-manipulated weaving, basic tapestry, and fabric dying techniques. Workshop participants learn to utilize a simple loom to create a wide variety of shawls, scarves, blankets, or other items using diverse fabric patterns. These lightweight looms are easily foldable and transportable and enable students to work on their projects between classes. All participants have the opportunity to exhibit their resulting work at the Sackler Center.

9 sessions, 2:30-4:30 PM
$200; $180 for members. For information and to register please call (212) 423-3637.
