The Yarn Tree: A Fiber Arts Studio + Store

Habu Textiles and The Yarn Tree are putting together a day in the Hamptons!

Our first stop will be at LongHouse (http://www.longhouse.org). Founded by Jack Lenor Larsen in 1970. It is a home, an art gallery, a sculpture garden and arboretum. We will be taking a private docent led tour of LongHouse. We will tour the gardens, the house and the gallery. This tour will run approximately 2 hours.

The current exhibition is:

In the gallery: 2005 - Rare Forms by Amy Goldman
LongHouse Reserve Presents: Rare Forms by Amy Goldman
A Unique Bronze Sculpture Exhibit
Inspired by heirloom treasures from her gardens, Goldman, a prize-winning horticulturist, has created a collection of singular bronze sculptures. Each piece captures the timeless beauty of an ancient gourd, squash, or melon

On the grounds: 2005 - Bronze Bells by Toshiko Takaezu
Bell Tolls of Toshiko Takaezu
The Gateway Bell in the dunes will be joined by five more outstanding bells. Each bell is placed within a simple support evoking a Shinto shrine.Toshiko Takaezu is a master ceramicist who helped transform the field into a major artistic medium. Known for creating clay vessels that mysteriously rattle when shaken, she began making bronze bells in the 1980's to explore sound as a component of sculpture.

Lunch will once again be at The Fish Farm in Amagansett. It's been almost a year and people are still talking about the great food we were served!!! You will have a choice of either a hot dish, cold plate or vegetarian meal.

After lunch we will travel on to to an arts & crafts gallery (TBA).

Before we get on the highway we'll make one last stop at The Hayground Market Farm Stand. Here you'll be able to eat fresh roasted corn and pick up lovely fruits and vegetables to take back with you. (There is lots of room under the bus to store your goodies for the trip home!!)

We will be traveling on an air conditioned chartered bus with a restroom. Bottled water will be available for all!!!

On the trip up we will be showing 2 videos: Through The Eye Of A Needle, Stories from an Indian Desert and Indigo, A World of Blue.

The first is the story of the women of the Kutch Desert and the return to their craft of embroidery. The second takes us on the Indigo path through Pakistan, Laos, Indonesia, Turkey and India. Both documentaries are produced by Charlotte Kwan of Maiwa.

As an added bonus The Yarn Tree and Habu Textiles will be providing 2 raffle prizes!!
