We keep hearing sad stories of moth eaten woolens. In order to avoid this problem you should put your woolens away clean and stored with some sort of moth repellant. We sell Eucalan Wool Wash, a great product (no rinsing). It is available in lavender (lavender makes a great moth repellant). We also have plastic zipper storage bags and herbal moth repellant sachets that we make up ourselves. If you see clothes moths flying around your apartment you can try the following: hang up a flypaper strip, get some fish oil and cotton balls and soak the cotton ball in the fish oil and place on the flypaper. The fish oil attracts the moths that are flying around. If you see moths flying around then you have an infestation and need to find the source. Vacuum the area (drawers, closet etc.) and give it a good cleaning. If you see evidence in your woolens, soak in water and mild soap (Dawn, Ivory or Palmolive diswashing liquid are all good) or Lavender Eucalan for 24 hours. This should kill any larvae. Check the infested area regularly. The life cycle for moths seems to go on forever! Here is an excellent article on clothes moths. |
