Woad Seeds - Organically grown in Roanoke, VA

Woad, Isatis tinctoria, Bleu de Pastel, Dyer's Woad

Woad has been an important dye plant since ancient times and is one of the oldest known dye plants. Until the introduction of Indigo from India in the late 1500s, Woad was the only blue dye used in Europe.

Woad is a biennial plant - the first year leaves will produce color, it will winter over and in the spring produce yellow flowers that will eventually go to seed. It grows well in zones 3-8. In its second year, the plant will grow to about 4 feet tall.

I have very much enjoyed growing Woad - it is a fascinating plant.
