The Yarn Tree: A Fiber Arts Studio + Store

Stories of Hope
Stories of Hope is a charity-based project bringing hope and joy to underprivileged men and women around the globe. Started by Linda LaBelle in 2009 to teach a crafts-based education that will provide life skills that will help to bring the participants out of poverty.

Natural dyeing, weaving and marketing are taught to small groups of men and women. In turn they will pass these skills on to others. Also, whenever possible the goods produced by these groups will be sold through The Yarn Tree.

Linda has worked in Mexico, India, Rwanda and Kazakhstan

Stories of Hope — The Indigo Project

I am raising funds for The Indigo Project. In the fall of 2011 I will be returning to Oaxaca, Mexico to teach three indigo workshops to native weavers.

After the workshops I plan on spending up to a month in one of the last villages that grows and produces indigo. I will interview and photograph the villagers and then follow the indigo production from plant to the indigo cake ready for dyeing. I will then produce a book, Stories of Hope — The Indigo Project.

The money will be used to pay for a translator, our room and board in the village, airfare, ground transportation, etc. The money will also be used to translate both Stories of Hope — Oaxaca and The Indigo Project into Spanish.
