Natural Dyes - Alkanet Root - Ground

Alkanet Root - Alkanna tinctoria, is in the borage family, its roots are used as a source of red dye. Alkanet grows wild in the Mediterranean region.

Alkanet root produces a very pleasing reddish purple.

It is not very lightfast and the color must be extracted from the root using an alcohol soak.

It is an excellent color for soapmaking!
