Wild Tussah Silk Cocoons with Peduncle on a jute rope

I couldn’t believe my luck! Having seen images of the garlands in Karen Selk’s book, In Search of Wild Silk, I was surprised to find several garlands included in my order.
When the cocoons are ready to be harvested, the rearers carefully cut each cocoon including the ring and stem from the branch. The cocoons are then sorted. Quoting Karen: “The remainder are tied into bunches of five and then knotted onto a jute rope. This creates an impressive 6 ft. (1.8 m) garland of 100 cocoons called a mala.”
Each of the available garlands varies in weight and number of cocoons.
They also vary in length from a few inches to about 18 inches.
